After purchasing an honest looking shell, we began removing all the unwanted bits and pieces, reducing the weight as much as we could. Finished wet weight comes in at 935Kg.
Hopefully these photos show the result of my efforts and the extent I had to go to achieve my goal. The accolades the car has received since it made it’s first appearance on the track, make all the hard work and long hours worthwhile. The car is now finished and competing regularly at local and interstate race tracks.
Since completion in October 2009, the car has been raced at Eastern Creek, Noosa Historic Hillclimb, Lakeside Park, Queensland Raceway and Morgan Park, showing the under 2.0 lt. Group Nc cars how it is done, leading the way on most occasions.
In Australia, Historic Group Nc Racing is a Class where very few modifications can be carried out on the car. Body and interior must stay virtually the same as a road car, with changes to the gear ratios, engine performance and suspension settings being allowed within certain parameters. Slight changes to the brakes, wheels and fuel tank are permitted. A full CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) approved roll cage is mandatory.
The engine runs 48mm Webers, good rods and pistons (12.5 : 1 CR), the head uses Schrick cam, springs and retainers, billet rockers and spending many, many hours on the flow bench to produce excellent results and 220 HP.
A locally manufactured twin plate clutch, Close Ratio gearbox and LSD (3.9 : 1), along with the rubber donut being replaced with CV Joint complete the main drivetrain attributes for trouble free racing.

Great looking car. I have been toying with idea of building a 2002 for tarmac stage events in Ireland to try to compete with the Escorts (which I already have). If anyone has a well prepared race or rally car I would be interested to here from them.
