Here are a selection of great racing 02s!
A BMW 2002 Tii has won the famous LeJog (Lands End to John O’Groats) rally. Land’s End to John O’Groats Reliability Trial and Classic Car Tour is open to cars built before 1984. Running in December, tough conditions are to be expected, but no-one crosses the finish line without a smile on their face. Other BMW’s included an E21 and an E28, great to see a mixture.
There are the usual driving tests throughout the event plus the “back to basics” navigation with crews plotting at rest halts and switching maps part way through a regularity. All of which helps competitors on Le Jog to re-live rallying as it used to be. Crews compete for Gold, Silver & Bronze medals plus a variety of special awards, including the much sought after Marque Team Trophy.
The Le Jog Tour is intended for those looking for a non-competitive, yet very demanding motoring experience. Those wanting to take part in 2013 visit http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/LeJog/lejog_2013/
Congratulations to Andrew Lane and Iain Tullie battled sleet and snow to win the four-day Le Jog rally in their 1973 BMW 2002.
The pair had to deal with the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation’s new and longer routes, plus tighter schedules, for the event that ran from 1-4 December.
By the end their BMW had travelled an epic 1500 miles through Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wales, Shropshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, North Yorkshire, Northumbria, Northumberland, East Lothian, West Lothian and North Lanarkshire. Of the 60 competitors who entered, just 40 finished.
