Georgiou Xrhstos 2002 Tii – COTM Jan 2025

This 1974 tii is the third E10 in the series that I own, acquired in
2007 and its restoration was completed early in 2012. I found it
abandoned for over 10 years in a yard.

Some of the body parts (front panel, outer sills and front fenders) were replaced without any serious
problems but as part of the complete reconstruction, it was mount on a rotary for under-floor work as seen in one of the photos sent. The body work was done by a very experienced (and “picky”) old man, who didn’t even have a smartphone, so I don’t have many photos of the body reconstruction.

The original engine had overheating problems (which was the reason it
was abandoned). So, I bought a complete part out E12 520i and I used the
engine block which I fully repaired with grand piano pistons etc. Α NOS
E12 tii cylinder head was installed and most of the peripherals were
purchased new.

Next followed a replacement of the 4-speed gearbox with the installation
of a close ratio 5 speed gearbox from E21 320i and a lsd diff. The
brakes were upgraded with rear disc brakes and vended Volvo calipers set
in front.

Four Bilstein’s B6, Low-tech lowering springs and adjustable
pull-rods completed the suspension.

Τwo Recaros were installed and re-upholstered along with the rear seat,
and new door panels and roof lining were placed. A turbo steering wheel
and gauge pod, a Becker radio complete the interior picture.
The car is used only for weekend rides and classic cars events and has
driven for 7000km from day one from restoration end.

In the links below you can see 02s that I owned and sold due to lack of
space in my garage.

The next project is a 1971 1600-2 with << clear>> body, good base for a
project. Despite the good weather conditions in Greece in recent years,
the number of cars being saved is decreasing. I recently helped a close
friend to rebuild a 1600 cabrio (it’s the Baikal blue one you see in a
photo I sent). It took almost 3 years and we have kept a complete
archive of photos, if there is any interest I can put you in touch.

Christos.
